Vitamin D also known as the “sun vitamin” is a steroid with hormone like activity. It regulates the functions of over 200 gens and is essential for growth and development of the body [1].It is a unique nutrient because it can be synthesized endogenously (skin) and it functions as a hormone. Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin. It, plays an important role in the bone growth and maintenance of bone mineral density. It influences the intestinal absorption of calcium, which has an influence on bone strength [2, 3]. Although Vitamin D has been traditionally considered important for skeletal health, adequate vitamin D is found to reduce the incidence of dementia, multiple sclerosis, diabetes and several forms of cancer.

In the Reference section, the references should be arranged in alphabetical order in the given format
